Exercise Prescription Clinic
The Exercise Prescription Clinic is a teaching clinic within the School of Physical Education, University of Otago. The clinic is staffed by academic staff, graduate volunteers, and final year physical education students majoring in Exercise Prescription.

To safely introduce clients to physical activity options that they will be capable of enjoying for life.
Clinic Services
The clinic offers individualised exercise advice, guidance and support for at-risk clients. Senior physical education students identify the needs of clients and work with them assisting in exploring physical activity options and maintaining lifestyle changes.
The clinic also operates a number of exercise programmes that cater for specific groups with exercise needs that are not otherwise provided for in the Otago region. Currently these include PEPSA aerobics, PEPSA circuit class, Arthritis class, Staff circuits and Dancercise.
Referral
The Exercise Prescription Clinic is extremely popular and spaces are limited each year. We accept referrals from Medical Practitioners, Dietitians, and through Sport Otago’s Green Prescription scheme.
Supervision
As senior students, our student consultants work largely unsupervised. For client protection and the student's learning, all screening, risk stratification decisions and exercise programmes are checked and authorised by academic staff prior to the commencement of any physical activity programme.
Staff
Clinic Coordinator: Carolyn Jenkins, Professional Practice Fellow in Exercise Prescription. Carolyn has extensive experience with exercise prescription and developing exercise programmes for the Dunedin public.
Clinic Director: Phil Handcock, Lecturer in Exercise Prescription.
Phil has been actively involved in exercise prescription for at-risk clients and has a wide range of experience with student learning in community based programmes
