Sports Studies Distance Learning Programme
Sports Studies Programme
Phasing Out
October 20, 2011
As a result of recent changes in Government policies in tertiary education the University of Otago has decided to phase out sub-degree Diplomas and Certificates. Therefore, we will no longer be accepting any new enrolments for our Diploma of Sports Studies, Certificate of Sports Studies, or Certificate of Fitness Management programmes.
All students who are already enrolled in these programmes have been advised of these changes. It is proposed that papers from these qualifications will be phased out over a three year period, with no further papers offered after the end of the 2013 academic year.
It is proposed to stage paper withdrawals as follows:
- Foundation papers (100-level) will not be offered after 2011
- SPSX 202, 205 and 212 will not be offered after 2012
- No SPSX papers will be offered after 2013.
Students are encouraged to carefully plan their papers for the next three years. Diploma students are reminded that there are two exit routes already provided with the Certificate in Sports Studies (All six foundation papers) and the Certificate in Fitness Management (SPSX 101, 102, 104, 201, 202 & 204). You are encouraged to consider these as alternate pathways to a qualification within the proposed time frame.
To discuss the implications of course discontinuation on your programme of study please don’t hesitate to contact the Course Administrator, Mrs Beverley Lawrence, in the first instance. Mrs Lawrence’s contact details are beverley.lawrence@otago.ac.nz
